Last Friday we took our Chinese and Math tests. The students did a good job overall. Please take some time to check with your child what they have done in class and encourage them to keep up their good work.
Some parents were not sure what they should go over with their children at home. The main thing is to practice writing the characters and understanding the correct pronunciation. We do not focus on the pinyin in the younger grades because the state feels it will confuse the students while they are also trying to learn English. We also do not want the students rely on pinyin to recognize the Chinese character. The pinyin is helpful when the parents need to help them study at home.
