The Last Week of School

Dear Parents,

Congratulations!  Your child has completed the Chinese Immersion Program and Math Curriculum for the second grade.  I would also like to thank everyone that volunteered throughout the school year, without your help many of the activities would not have gone smoothly.  I would also like to thank all of the parents for the support they have given their children and the Chinese Immersion program here at Southland Elementary.

On our last day of school Friday June 6th, please have your child bring a favorite game to share and play with their friends.  The last day of school will be a game day!

I have posted, and will be posting all of the videos and pictures I have from this school year to my SkyDrive on the Internet.  I thought many of the parents would be interested in downloading pictures and videos of your children.  Here is the link:  http://1drv.ms/T56rmh

Here are some suggestions for how to help your child continue to progress through the summer.

1.       Review the yellow picture dictionaries and practice that vocabulary.

2.       Practice reading in the Green book your child brought home from school.

3.       Have fun doing Chinese things like going to one of the Chinese stores (Ocean Mart, Asian Gifts, etc.) or Chinese restaurants.

4.       For math, be certain your child is fluent in all of the basic addition and subtraction facts.  Periodically review problems with regrouping (carrying and borrowing)

5.       Work with measuring using inch and centimeter rulers.

6.       My blog will be up over the summer with everything that was placed in it over this school year.  If you do not have the link it is located here:

7.       Help you children go over their multiplication tables for next year.

I have enjoyed teaching your children this year!

Have a wonderful summer and we wish you success in the third grade!
